Hailing from Virginia, Ashley Barton joined Team England North October 2024. She works primarily with Roundhay Evangelical Church in Leeds while also exploring other ways God might wish to use her during her two-year term.

What is your ministry focus?

I will be working with Roundhay Evangelical Church with their children and youth ministries.

How did God lead you to Leeds?

At the IMB's interview conference I had no idea where the Lord was sending me. While there the interviewers made the suggestion to take a look back on the places we had been, the people we had meet, and the ministries the Lord had provided to see if that led us to a specific place. That opened my eyes to see that the Lord had been leading me towards England. Leeds was not an option when I applied, but through the Lord closing several doors He led me straight to Leeds.

How has support in the U. S. made a difference in your ministry?

It’s definitely helped me with easing the nervousness about everything and getting ready to go. They’ve also been a very big help with prayer and helping answer questions that I may have had for going and doing a job that I may not necessarily have had a lot of experience in. I don’t usually work with the kids at our church; I usually work with the youth, so they’re a little older. It’s definitely been nice to have people supporting and saying, “I’m praying for you, I’m here if you need to chat.”

And I’m hoping it continues when I get there, that they continue to reach out and keep in touch.

How can we pray for your ministry?

I’ve been talking to the person who’s in charge of the ministry there, and it sounds like they are in continual prayer for more kids to keep coming. They’ve had an increase in the number of kids coming on a regular basis, so just continued prayer that they’ll continue to come and that they’ll continue to grow.

And then for me here, exiting and leaving the youth group that I have been part of for several years and saying goodbye to the girls I’ve made good connections with.

How can we pray for you personally?

Just for the transition, hoping it goes smoothly. And for me--this is my first time leaving my family for an extended period of time and not being just down the street, so just praying for anxiety levels and nervousness to be on the lower side as I transition.

In one word, describe how you feel about your current stage of ministry.

I want to say “excited.” I’m excited to see how the Lord continues to work in the ministry here in the States, and then I’m excited to see how He’s going to use me to help the ministries there in Leeds.
